Clinical Experience

An Nguyen is a Psychotherapist and Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) with extensive experience supporting people with anxiety, depression, grief and psychological trauma. An has worked across a wide range of clinical settings, beginning as a Youth Access Clinician at Headspace, before transitioning on to work across different teams within NSW Health, including adult community mental health, child & adolescent services (CAMHS), various acute psychiatric units at Cumberland Hospital, and a specialist transcultural mental health service. More recently, An partnered with the Primary Health Network (PHN) to deliver psychological support to vulnerable client groups in Western Sydney. As an appointed Victims Services Counsellor, An also provides counselling support to victims of crime in NSW.

In 2021, An trained as a psychotherapist under the supervision of Dr Anthony Korner, as part of the Westmead Psychotherapy Program. It was there that he developed a strong interest in psychodynamic and relational approaches to therapy.

An currently works as a Senior Mental Health Clinician with the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD), supporting young people with complex and severe mental health issues.

Originally trained in Law, An transitioned to a career in mental health after recognising a desire for more meaningful, people-centred work. He has enjoyed working at the intersection between law and mental health. He has considerable experience appearing before the NSW Mental Health Review Tribunal, and is a strong advocate for vulnerable patients and families.

An has a special interest in grief and loss.

He also sees the value in challenging people to grow outside of their comfort zones.
